Buen trabajo!

Occupy Wall Street Unions March, October 5th, 2011

Thousands of people (approximately 50, 000 according to the mass media) gathered in Foley Square to march to Liberty Park in the financial district of Wall Street yesterday afternoon. Unfortunately, the unions decided to march on the sidewalk and only used a line of traffic (the bike lane).

Upon arriving at Liberty Square (where the encampment is) the different contingents tried to find room at the square but it was almost impossible for the thousands of attendees. The usual general assembly began and at the end of it, it was decided to march on Wall Street, a group of 200 people headed there, but unfortunately some of the participants stopped the march to keep going and they decided to have a meeting at that moment, giving an opportunity to the police to block access to the street. Some were not intimidated by the police or the bureaucracy of the assembly and decided to break through police lines, the NYPD reacted violently (as they always do) and began to hit anything that moved and arrested some people.

There were two spontaneous marches toward the Bowling Green Park with the intention of occupying it, but again the police cracked down on demonstrators, this time making use of horses and even arresting people marching on the sidewalk.
Despite the arrests and beatings, the crowd was lively and people were in the mood to keep marching. Chaos and agitation reigned. Good job!

Occupy Wall Street takes over the Brooklyn Bridge! Oct 1st, 2011.

(English at the bottom)

Occupy Wall Street takes over the Brooklyn Bridge! October 1st, 2011.

On Saturday October 1st, Occupy Wall Street marched from their encampment to the Brooklyn Bridge. Approximately 1500 people marched to the bridge, some began to enter the pedestrian lane when a group decided to take the road, the police had to step aside as more and more people jumped from the pedestrian side to the road. People clapped and shouted in support of those who took the main road. For some minutes the police left one lane open and the protest was running alongside the cars, but it didn't take long before people started taking all the lanes. The Brooklyn Bridge was blocked completely.
An action like this hasn't happened in the city of New York for many years.
A cry of: 'Whose bridge?, Our bridge! -,-Whose streets?, Our streets! - People were hugging and jumping, the passing cars in the lane across the bridge (Brooklyn to Manhattan) honked, raised fists and shouted in solidarity with the march.
In the middle of the bridge, police began arresting people to prevent the march to continue its course, tried to push the demo back that up but they did not move. Some people started to sit on the pavement and continued struggling with police who were in the front.
We began to hear that the back of the bridge and was closed by the police, we had been corralled. Some began to climb the bridge to the pedestrian zone to avoid being arrested and a few others made it out from the back.
About 700 people were arrested. They are all out now.
