Beit Ommar is a Palestinian town located between Bethlehem and Hebron. Beit Ommar has a long history of resistance against settlers, in the 1980s the Karmei Tsur settlement appropriated land that belonged to Palestinian farmers, building a fence around it and declaring it part of the settlement.
Beit Ommar es una ciudad palestina situada entre Belén y Hebrón. Beit Ommar tiene una larga historia de resistencia contra los colonos (settlers) israelís, en la década de 1980 el asentamiento ilegal israelí Tsur Karmei se apropió de tierras que pertenecían a los agricultores palestinos y construyeron una cerca alrededor de ellas declarandolas parte del asentamiento.
In 2006 the settlers built a security buffer for the fence (this is how settlements expand), adding a second layer of wire around the confiscated land.
Numerous demonstrations have happened and the farmers succeeded in getting permission for working the land but not to recover it. Since then, the farmers have succeeded in working on their land only twice.
The settlers have attacked the farmers in a regular basis, massive arrests of youth have taken place and farmers have been shot for working near the fence by private Israeli security.
Today’s protest was part of Beit Ommar’s struggle against Israeli occupation.
As the 50 demonstrators gathered near the fence and started marching towards it, Israeli soldiers lined the field and declared the area a closed military zone. After ten minutes, they began chasing the activists off Palestinian land, throwing several sound bombs to disperse the crowd.

Mientras los 50 manifestantes se reunían cerca de la valla y comenzaban a marchar hacia ella, los soldados Israelíes salieron del campo y la declararon el area como zona militar cerrada. Después de diez minutos, comenzaron a perseguir a los activistas y a sacarlos de las tierras palestinas, lanzando varias bombas de sonido para dispersar a la multitud.
The activists moved stones to clear the fields as an act of civil disobedience because it is forbidden to work on those lands.

Two internationals and three Israelis were arrested and beaten in Beit Ommar today.
At the time this was written the three Israelis were released and the internationals are still held by the authorities.
